Framed Hand Colored Engraving of Pineapple and Insects by Maria Sybella Meriam artwork hand colored engraving by Maria Sybella Meriam, 1647-1717. Titled Surinam Insects. Pineapple and insects. This is an original print not a reproduction. An example of this is in the British Museum. Her fame starts 1699-1701 on a trip to the Dutch Colony Surinam on the northeast coast of South America. The trip resulted in the magnificent book Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium published in Amsterdam in 1705. She received her artistic training from her stepfather Jacob Marrel.
